Service Projects

Academic Decathlon - A number of our Club Members volunteer to judge the students at the High School Academic Decathlon
.Back Pack Project - Our Club, in conjunction with the Shepherd of the Hills Methodist, started the Back Pack Project in 2003. The purpose of this project is to raise funds and purchase new back packs and school supplies for "at risk" children in the Washington County public schools. Each school in the District receives enough back packs for students who need them and are then distributed through the school counselors. We also collect used back packs and send them to Globus Relief Fund to be distributed internationally. This is an on-going service project.
Centennial Project - Our Club along with the other 2 Rotary Clubs in St George participated in a project to help beautify the St George Trail system by installing informational kiosks at several trailheads. In addition, our clubs assisted the City of St George in installing landscaping at 2 of these trailheads. This project was to commemorate Rotary's 100th Anniversary.
Christmas lighting at the Bloomington Round-about - Our members volunteer to install and take down all of the beautiful lighting and decorations at the Bloomington Round-about which certainly adds to the festive spirit of the Christmas season in our community.
Coins for Kids - Many of our Club members volunteer their time to the Coins for Kids program which provides Christmas presents to less fortunate children in our community. Our Club helps raise money, shop, wrap, and deliver the Christmas presents. In 2003 our Club donated $675 to the program from money that was collected at the Club Christmas party in lieu of a gift exchange and in 2004 each Rotarian brought a gift of a toy to the Annual Christmas party.
Group Study Exchange - Our Club Members have hosted 2 GSE Team; in 2004 we hosted the GSE Team from Turkey and in 2005 we hosted the GSE Team from India
JUST 4 KIDZ -Our Club has adopted the Just 4 Kidz charity store as their primary on-going project.
Kite Festival - Our Club members volunteer their time and efforts at the annual Kite Festival which benefits the local schools. Five of our Members are on The Kite Festival Executive Board
Polio Plus - Our Club participated with the St George and Dixie Sunrise Clubs in March 2003 in a garage sale fundraising event to benefit RI Polio Plus. The combined total amount that we raised was $52,000.
Reality Store - Many Club Members volunteer at the "Reality Store" which is held annually at the middle schools in Washington County and which assists young people learn about the realities of life.
Red Rock Bluegrass Festival - Our Club started hosting a bluegrass festival in 2004 which will be an annual event and will help us fund our various service projects and scholarships.
RYLA - Our Club sponsored 2 students to the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. RYLS is a program for youth leaders. It is about recognizing excellence in youth leadship. Recognition is given to young men and women, high school juniors, who have demonstrated leadership ideals and example in their schools and or communities. Excellence in academics or sports is not a requirement.
Rotary Bowl - Many of our members joined with the other 2 Rotary Clubs in St George to host the Rotary Football Bowl Game.
Tsunami Relief - Our International service committee held a fundraising dinner to help in the Tsunami Relief.
Vocational Exchange - Each member has given a "member focus" presentation in which they have given the members a short biography of their life.
We have presented awards to members of our community who exemplify the Rotary 4-Way Test and have invited the recipient to our meeting to give the presentation.
Wheelchair Program - Member of our Club purchased 33 wheelchairs in December 2003, that were delivered to people in Jordan who are without mobility. This project was done at Christmas time, so most of the wheelchairs were given to our loved ones instead of less meaningful "stuff".
Youth Exchange - Members of our Club hosted 2 teenage boys from Belarus for three weeks during the Summer of 2003. Several members took a turn in taking the boys on sightseeing excursions and outings. This was a great experience for both the members of our Club as well as for the boys. Our Club definitely wants to participate in future youth exchanges.
YouthLinc - Members of our Club made and sold tamales in order to raise money to send a student to Youthlinc
Los Ninos de Mexico - Members of our Club travelled to Mexico along with the Dixie High School Interact Club to do service for the Door of Faith Orphanage. There were others that went as well. A documentary was produced by KCSG. Everyone involved had a great time and we did a great service project. Our Club certainly wants to do this again.
Literacy Council - One Book One Community - Members of our Club teamed with the Literacy Council to host the first annual One Book One Community Fair held at Staheli's Family Farm. Schools in the community were given books, The Great Brain and Minding Mama was given to the older children and adults. A culmination of the reading was held at a music festival with booths, lots of music, the corn maize and food.
Operation School Bell - Our Club teamed with Operation School Bell to help give out a brand new coat, new clothes, and underclothes to those children in need in our Community. It is a worthy cause and our Club supports and is excited to be a part of it.
