This morning we had a surprise visit from District Governor-Elect (DGE) Shaun Michel. Other guests included visiting Rotarian (and Pres-Elect of the North Colorado Springs Rotary Club) Rice Brown and guest speaker Shaelie Knutson, Miss Washington County.
DGE Michel shared a Rotary minute about finding a lost lamb while on a trip outdoors. He likened it to finding opportunities for service.
We inducted our newest and 32nd member, Michael Forrest who is the owner of St. George Massage. We are plus 7 in membership since July 1 so kudos to everyone and keep up the good work!
We turned time over to Shaelie Knutson so she could get to work. She needs to collect at least 1,000 pairs of shoes to send to Burkina Faso, Africa in order to be eligible to run for Miss Utah. She talked about how Burkina Faso is the third poorest country in the world and has one of the youngest populations (45% is between the ages of 0 and 14). They also have one of the highest child labor rates (38% ages 5-14).
Anyone wanting to donate shoes can drop them off with Big Brothers Big Sisters. They need to be wearable and in good condition.
Tim Welsh led us in another rousing round of horseplay.
For those of you who weren't there, we missed you!
