After Tim Welsh led us in a fun round of horseplay he introduced our presenter Carl Johnston who is a Training Officer for the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.
Officer Johnston spoke about the Explorer program. The Explorers have helped our club control the upper parking lot for the last several years at the Washington County Fair.
The Explorer program is part of the Boy Scouts of America and this post is sponsored by the Sheriff’s Department. It is open to males and females between the ages of 14 and 21 who are interested in law enforcement careers.
It is a paramilitary organization with uniforms and ranks. They study and meet twice a month for 4 years. They donate their time to serve the community in many ways. In addition to helping us with fair parking, they also participate in the Sun Bowl, Kiwanis eater egg hunt and travel around the county with a portable climbing wall.
Officer Johnston brought 4 Explorers with him (Explorers Taylor, Cabanas, Alba and Rosas) who each talked about why they joined the Explorers and what careers they plan to pursue.
For those of you who weren’t there, we missed you!
