Guests:

  • Dan Brown – potential member, guest of George Schmal

  • Josh Wittwer – general manager of Abbey Inn

  • Dave Doddridge – LEAP, presenter

New Member applicants - none at the moment

New Member Inductees - none

Member Departures - none this week.

Theme – 4 Way Test – watched Big Gus video from the district.  My apologies to Tim for not having him do his Rotary Minute – he was ready for it.

Announcements:

  • We raised $155.31 at the Spookytown Fair over this past weekend for Purple Pinkies (eradicating Polio).  Thank you Angie, Beth, Joe and Scott for working the booth.

  • Lisa Mueller – our presenter a couple weeks ago about LED lights is looking for a friendship exchange where she would stay at your house from 11/5 for 9 days (non-smoking house only and she has a medium dog)

  • Kathleen was awarded two backers (gold and bronze) for recruiting two members to our club (George and Linda Schmal)

  • We presented Vocational Awards to Dr. Joe Fife, Teri Iversion and Del Beaty.  The awards were to those who “exemplified outstanding professional achievement and high ethical standards”.  Kathleen put together excellent awards which included a picture of the recipient in their work environment and a poem written by Kathleen.  Amazingly clever, thank you Kathleen.

Horse Play – Tim entertained us all and led a great banter between members.

Presentation – Dave Doddridge – Law Enforcement Against Prohibition

  • An interesting presentation on how the war on drugs has become unwinnable because there are a number of parties interested in perpetuating it and profiting from the current system – police (confiscation of property and growth in employment), courts (growth in employment), lawyers (increase in client base), prison system (huge increase in prison population) and gangs (high drug prices).

  • The presenter talked about some statistics from Europe where in some countries drug use has gone down after legalization

  • It will be interesting to see what happens in some of the states (Washington, Colorado etc.) as legalization of marijuana takes hold and gets shaken out.

Upcoming dates:

    - 11/3/14 – Board meeting Monday night 5:30PM
