Guests - Bob Sandberg with Desert Tortoise Preserve
New Member applicants - George and Linda Schmal submitted their family application.  Great job Kathleen for recruiting them!!!
Theme - Thank you members for being doers.
Presented Paul Harris Fellow to Victor Iverson.
Review of Washington County Rotary presidents meeting last week:
1) Larry Bergeson, Wash Co superintendent of schools, gave his blessing for conducting Purple Pinkies fund raisers in schools the week of October 20th.  Heather and Terry will coordinate with Janet O'Reilly (St George Rotary) to see what is the best way to do this.  We will be doing Dixie High and Snow Canyon High through our Interact clubs.
2) Monday, October 20th, at lunch time, is shaping up as an All Clubs meeting at Abbey Inn to hear Bif, the new president of DSU, share his vision for the university (by that time he would have met Steve so this should be interesting  :)  ).
3) We are kicking around an interesting project - the St. George Children's Museum has an empty room and the thought is to make it a Rotary Room.  It is still gestating and Linda Sappington, the district Assistant Governor for Rotary (AG) is trying to get particulars on cost etc.
Dictionary Project - 420 dictionaries were ordered for 3rd graders in 6 schools in Washington County.  Waiting for their arrival so we can start labeling and distributing them.  If you have never given a dictionary to a 3rd grader - it is a great experience.
We watched the Sally video (made Lil cry) - a dual theme of Rotarians are doers and how meaningful a small amount (tip, donation to foundation etc.) can be when it is all a person can afford.
Frank presided over horse play - as usual we had a some fun.  It did not get racy this go around because Sommer was not present.
Bob Sandberg, manager of the Desert Tortoise Preserve gave us a presentation about the preserve.  Some very interesting facts were shared and we shared some turtle soup for desert (just kidding, looking to see if you are paying attention :) ).
Members that were not there, we missed you.
Those of you not yet members of our club - you are missing out on being a contributor to a better place to live locally and globally.  Come join us and find food for your soul through volunteer activities.
